Tumo's Ristorante

You've all heard the expression, "Spring forward, Fall back." We're living the dream! We're now back on summer time and meeting at 7:30 rather than 7:00.

To celebrate this amazing change in our schedules and disruption to our lives, let's get some Italian food. Located a mere 4.9 miles from our house, Tumo's promises to make you happy with their selection of pastas and other Italian dishes. Will they use Provel? Will they have St. Louis style pizza? Will they have really sweet tomato sauces? Will they read the entire menu over the phone when you ask about the price range? Let's all find out the answers to these compelling questions together on Monday!

  1. Tumo's was typical St. Louis Italian fare - lots of provel, lots of sweet tomato sauce, and low complexity. The highlights of the food included the cheese garlic bread and minestrone. The low points encompassed just about everything else, unfortunately.

  2. Those who attended dinner club last night know that the conversation was far spicier than usual. However, I believe most would agree that the food was not. It lacked in flavor and in the case of my clam and shrimp pasta, it lacked a decent amount of clams and shrimps.

On a positive note, I'm always happy when restaurants have a half order option on the menu.

  3. I liked it. Nothing extraordinary, but I enjoyed everything I had. The minestrone had a good meat, veggie, broth ratio. My pasta dish was one of my favorites... meat-filled tortellini with peas and prosciutto in a garlic cream sauce. I've had better, but I've also had worse. I'd say that while Tumo's wasn't bad, you have to do better than "not bad" when it comes to Italian if you want my repeat business. (Especially when going to the Hill is closer.)
